Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

NOTE -To read codes from the Ignition system, bridge the Black jumper wire to diagnostic socket number 6 and the selector cable. For Turbo vehicles, bridge Black jumper wire to diagnostic socket 5 and the selector cable.

1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature.

2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF.

3 Bridge the Black jumper wire to socket 2 of the test connector and the selector cable.

4 Depress the test button for 1 second.

NOTE -Error codes can only be retrieved one at a time. To get the next code depress test button again

5 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

6 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Code Format Description

• The first digit is indicated by the first series of flashes, likewise for the second digit, until all three digits have been flashed out.

• Each series of flashes is separated by a longer gap.

• Three series of flashes are used to indicate the three digit codes.

• 2 flashes, a short pause, then 1 flash follwed by, two 1-second flashes indicates the code number "212". Codes will be repeated after longer gap.
