The information below may apply to Volkswagen Corrado 1.8i Supercharger, Jetta, Polo, Santana and many other models Step 4 Volkswagen EFI Code Reading Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed) 1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature. 2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF. 3 Ensure ignition is switched off. 6 Start engine, allow it to idle. If engine is a non-starter, crank engine for 6 seconds. Leave ignition switched ON. 7 Close switch for 5 seconds minimum. NOTE -error codes can only be retrieved one at a time. To get next code close the switch again for 5 seconds. 8 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below. 9 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s). Code Format Diagram  Code Format Description • Four series of flashes are used to indicate the four digit codes. • The first digit is indicated by the first series of flashes, likewise for the second digit, until all four digits have been flashed out. • A one to two second flash makes up each series with flashes being separated by short pauses. One second flashes make up the numbers, with zero being indicated by a two second flash. • Each series of flashes is separated by a 2.5-second gap. • A 2-second flash, a short pause, one 1-second flash, a short pause, three 1-second flashes, a short pause and two 1-second flashes indicates the code number "0132".
