The information below may apply to Volkswagen Corrado 1.8i Supercharger, Jetta, Polo, Santana and many other models Step 4 Volkswagen EFI Code Reading Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed) 1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature. 2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF. 3 Ensure ignition is switched off. 6 Start engine, allow it to idle. If engine is a non-starter, crank engine for 6 seconds. Leave ignition switched ON. 7 Close switch for 5 seconds minimum. NOTE -error codes can only be retrieved one at a time. To get next code close the switch again for 5 seconds. 8 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below. 9 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s). Code Format Diagram  Code Format Description Four series of flashes are used to indicate the four digit codes. The first digit is indicated by the first series of flashes, likewise for the second digit, until all four digits have been flashed out. A one to two second flash makes up each series with flashes being separated by short pauses. One second flashes make up the numbers, with zero being indicated by a two second flash. Each series of flashes is separated by a 2.5-second gap. A 2-second flash, a short pause, one 1-second flash, a short pause, three 1-second flashes, a short pause and two 1-second flashes indicates the code number "0132". Codes will be repeated after 2.5 second gap.
