Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

1 Turn the ignition OFF.

2 Connect terminals TE2 and E1 with your own wire link, (Click here for details) .

3 Drive the vehicle to attempt to simulate fault conditions.

4 If the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on return to the workshop.

5 Connect TE1 and E1 with your own wire link, (Click here for details) .

6 Turn ingition ON, the Check Engine Light (CEL) should be flashing.

7 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

8 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Diagram

Code Format Description

• Each code is made up of two series of flashes.

• The first series indicates the 'tens' digit.

• The second series indicates the 'ones' digit.

• A 2.5 second pause separates each code.

• A system pass code is indicated by very short repeating flashes.

• A 1.5 second pause separates the 'tens' and 'ones'. If no 1.5 second pause is found, code is single digit.

• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 32.
