Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature.

2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF.

3 Connect a switch, (Click here for details) , as shown on the diagram.

4 Turn on the ignition, close switch for 2-4 seconds. Codes are Flashed on the Check Engine Light

NOTE -only one code can be read at a time, to access the next code, close switch again for 2-4 seconds.

5 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

6 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Code Format Diagram

Code Format Description

• Each code is made up of two series of flashes.

• The first series indicates the 'tens' digit.

• The second series indicates the 'ones' digit.

• A long pause separates each code.

• A shorter pause separates the 'tens' and 'ones'.

• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 32.

• If only code 12 is present (repeats more than 4 times in a row) then there are NO codes in memory.
