Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)
1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature.
2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF.
3 If the vehicle does not have a CEL (Check Engine Light), use a LED tester, (Click here for details) , between points A and B.
4 Connect a switch, (Click here for details) , as shown in the diagram.
5 Turn on the ignition. The CEL or LED should illuminate.
6 Close the switch. The light will extinguish.
7 Open the switch after 3 seconds. The LED or CEL in the instrument panel will begin to flash
NOTE -The ECM can only display one code at a time, to read the next code close switch again for 3 seconds.
8 Repeat until you have received code number 11.
9 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
10 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Code Format Description
Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.
The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.
A long pause separates each code sequence.
Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
To move to the next screen click on the Continue button
