Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

Note:If you have followed the instructions below and no codes are produced, it either means there are no fault codes or there is a connection error. To test connection, disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor, crank or run the engine, and re-test.

1 Drive the vehicle until transmission reaches operating temperature.

2 Stop the vehicle, place in park, or neutral and turn ignition OFF.

Note 2:If possible, follow upper connector diagram for instructions below, however if the pins are not present, follow bottom diagram.

3 Connect a LED tester or Voltmeter, (Click here for details) , to points 'A' and 'B' as shown on diagram.

4 Link terminals with your own wire link, (Click here for details) , as shown in the diagram.

5 Turn ignition ON.

6 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

7 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Description

• Each code is made up of two series of flashes.

• The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.

• The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.

• A long pause separates each code sequence.

• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
