Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

Note:If after following the instructions below no codes are output, it either means there are no fault codes or there is a connection error. To test connection, remove an ABS sensor and carefully / safely hoist the car and spin the wheels faster than 30kph with the key on, then recheck codes.

1 Drive the vehicle at 30 kph or more for at least 1 minute.

2 Stop vehicle and turn ignition OFF.

3 Connect an LED tester or Voltmeter to terminals labeled 'A' & 'B', and connect terminals TBS and GND with your own jumper wire as shown in the diagram above. (Click here for details) 

4 Bridge terminals with a wire link as shown in the diagram to your left.

5 Turn ignition ON.

6 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

7 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Description

• Code sequence begins with a 3 second flash.

• Each following code is made up of two series of flashes.

• The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.

• The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.

• A long pause separates each code sequence.

• Once every code has been displayed the code sequence repeats.

• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
