Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

IMPORTANT:If after you turn the ignition on the Transmission Light does not flash, there are either NO fault codes OR the vehicle has not been put into diagnostics mode correctly. To test the connection generate a fault code by disconnecting the throttle position sensor, then crank or run the engine and re-run the test.

1 Drive the vehicle until transmission reaches operating temperature.

2 Stop the vehicle, place in park, or neutral and turn ignition OFF.

3 Link terminals with your own wire link, (Click here for details) , as shown in the diagram.

4 Turn ignition ON.

5 Codes will be emitted via Transmission Light (S or D4) light on dashboard display.

6 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

7 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Diagram

Code Format Description

• Each code is made up of two series of flashes.

• The first series indicates the 'tens' digit.

• The second series indicates the 'ones' digit.

• A long pause separates each code.

• A shorter pause separates the 'tens' and 'ones'.

• Code Format Diagram shows code No. 32.
