Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)
1 Drive the vehicle until transmission reaches operating temperature.
2 Stop the vehicle, place in park, or neutral and turn ignition OFF.
3 Link terminals with your own wire link, (Click here for details) , as shown in the diagram.
4 Connect a LED tester or Voltmeter to points 'A' and 'B', (Click here for details) as shown on diagram.
5 Turn the ignition ON.
6 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
7 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Description
1 Ford emits two types of codes. Hard Codes and Memory Codes. Hard Codes are present at time of test. Memory Codes previously detected codes.
2 Hard Codes are displayed first followed by a single separator flash (with a 6 second pause) then Memory Codes.
The fault code will either be 2 digit (up to 99) or 3 digit (up to 999).

Each series of flashes represents a digit.
A 2 second pause separates each digit.
A 4 second pause separates each code.
Each fault code is repeated 2 times before next code is displayed.
Ignore any quick flashes that may occur before both Hard Codes and Memory Codes.
