Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature.

2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF.

3 The connector is located either in the dash fusebox or under the dash on the drivers side.

4 Connect an LED tester or Voltmeter, (Click here for details) , to to battery positive (shown as B) and connector terminal C3 (shown as A).

5 Connect a switch, (Click here for details) , to terminal C2 and ground.

6 Switch ignition ON, operate switch on lead for 2.5 to 5 seconds.

NOTE -The ECM can only display one code at a time, to read the next code operate switch for 2.5 to 5 seconds.

7 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.

8 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Code Format Description

• The two digits are indicated by two series of flashes.

• The first long flashes indicates the multiples of ten, the second series of flashes in quick succession indicates the single units.

• The code number "12" is indicated by a long flash, a 1.5-second pause and two flashes in quick succession. After a 2.5-second pause, the code will be repeated.
