Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)
NOTE:
To store a code the Check Engine Light (CEL) must stay ON with the engine running.
1 If possible run the engine, to bring it and the oxygen sensor up to operating temperature, then switch the engine OFF.
2 Connect an LED tester or Voltmeter, (Click here for details) to the terminals labelled A and B.
3 Turn the ignition ON.
4 Codes will be emitted via the LED or Voltmeter connected previously.
5 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
6 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Code Format Description
Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.
The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.
A long pause separates each code sequence.
Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
If nolongflashes are observed then the code is a straight count of short flashes. i.e. 4 flashes = code 4.
A series of repeating short pulese indicates No codes in memory
To move to the next screen click on the Continue button
